Swell waves are ocean waves generated by distant weather systems. Thus, these waves form a 'hindcast' from far away places and distant times. A sequence of swell waves reaching the Orkney Islands were analyzed to have travelled over four days from their place of origin; the Atlantic Ocean. This wave analysis was faithfully translated to take shape on the keys of a grand piano.
