Visual artist, writer, and amateur moth breeder based in Amsterdam, NL. Sculpture tutor and a research fellow at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Artist in residence at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam 2021-2023.
Pre-modern notions considered electricity as sacred phenomenon that houses a sort of spirit, which animates matter. For the past few years my artistic research evolved around historic and futuristic concepts of electricity as a speculative agent of life. Combining natural and industrial processes, through the binding force of their energy, my work addresses a fundamental dynamic underlying materials and organisms. Through sculptures, installations, video and text I seek to channel a close understanding of electricity by drawing a direct relation to its source. In long-term collaboration with scientists, engineers, government employees and musicians I propose a conscious understanding of electric energy as a statement of interconnectedness and entanglement—between species, media and nature, matter and energy. Navigating through this era of environmental fragility, my statement lies in a deep notion of intimacy. Witnessing the profound energetic relation between our environment and ourselves we cannot help but experience profound empathy and concern.
My studies include a brief period at the Design Academy Eindhoven, and a BFA at Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, NL. Eversince, I have been educated through practice, collaboration and artist-in-residency programs including: Delfina Foundation London, UK; Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, NL; Fondazione Antonio Ratti, IT; Alps Art Academy, CH and Studio Galeria FKSE, HU. Previous teaching positions include the Academy for Architecture and the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, NL.
